Find the right DPA program for you

The Washington, D.C. Department of Housing and Development and neighboring governments offer prospective homeowners a number of down payment assistance programs to aid with their down payment or closing costs. The most notable programs include:

  • Home Purchase Assistance Program (HPAP): Deferred loan that provides as much as $202,000 to low-to-moderate income applicants

  • Employer-Assisted Housing Program (EAHP): Interest-free loan available to D.C. government employees

  • Negotiated Employee Affordable Home Purchase (NEAHP) Program: $3,000 to $26,500 in assistance for government employees in specific unions

  • DC Open Doors: Deferred repayable loans, with 0% interest, for a minimum down payment requirement

  • Inclusionary Zoning (IZ) Affordable Housing Program: Brand new homes available to prospective homebuyers with specific income limits

Maryland, and other neighboring cities, tend to have additional geography-based programs.
